Octogen 2fiveonine Soma Quality Recordings
There is a tendency for Glasgow’s Soma Quality Recordings to be ahead of the electronic music curve, no matter what the sub-genre. Octogen is the next direction we should be turning our attention towards if Soma’s track record is any indication. A slightly different direction for the label, Octogen is along the minimal, bleepy, twerpy lines. What is noticeable about what Marco Bernardi, the character behind Octogen, is doing is his way with using the least amount of sounds to create the most amount of feeling. In some cases he falls short, such as “Monocyte,” but in other cases, such as on “Ligrgirl” he goes beyond hitting the mark, creating virtual orchestras of funky noises from what sounds like mere blips from the computer. And on “Scionide” he has a dancefloor stormer made from the smallest, most negligible beeps and toots and he makes it work.
